Trail: Washington and Monroe via Ammonoosuc and Jewel Date Hiked: 10/14/06 Conditions: Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail is in great shape. Cold morning temps made some of the rocks up hi very tricky with thin layers of ice. Almost missed the trail where it crosses the brook, those arrows are darn confusing. Trail to Monroe summit is fine. The cairns seem kinda small to see in Winter though. Same with Crawford Path over to Washington. There is a sign missing at the intersection of Great Gulf and Gulfside trails. The post is there but no sign. Easy to see in good weather, be easy to miss in bad. One minor blowdown at the bottom of the Jewel trail. Special Required Equipment: Stabilicers and or YakTrax would have been useful on the top of Ammonoosuc but not required. Comments: This was it. Last one. Seven months and 48 mountains. Thanks to Igor and Andrew from the Ukraine who shared their whiskey with me at the Summit. |
