Trail: Garfield, Galehead, N+S Twin, Guyot, + 3 Bonds via Gale River-Twinway

Date Hiked: 1+2JUL06

Conditions: Gale River trail has long sections of mud, worse on Sunday after the rains. A few old blow downs that are easily scrambled over. My map shows a foot bridge at one crossing, there is no foot bridge. Water level high but hoppable. Garfield Ridge trail has some mud and puddles, ledge areas were slippery. Twinway to Guyout was fairly muddy on both days but worse on Sunday. Bondcliff trail had slippery rocks. Mudd on West Bond spur.

Special Required Equipment: I will be buying Gaiters after this weekend. Evidently they aren't just for winter hiking. My pants below the knees are a sloppy muddy mess.

Comments: Met my first AT thurhiker at Galehead Hut. Hut seemed fairly empty considering the long weekend. Guyot campsite was full by 4:30 (I think I got the last tentsite, yeah!) but people were still coming in at 8:30 looking for sites. The rain stopped at about 8:30am. The top of West Bond with a 10 foot visibility is very sureal. Tthe Twinway was in the clouds the whole way back to the hut. Rocks goming up and down South Twin were really slippery. 30.2 miles in two days. 22 thru 28 done.
