Trail: Mt. Abraham via Lincoln Gap Road and Long Trail

Date Hiked: 31MAR07

Conditions: Lincoln Gap Road is still closed but should be open within a few days. Only a few inches of packed snow on the road, took 45 mins to get to the Long Trail trailhead. Long Trail still snow covered with a half dozen or so nuisance blowdowns. Well packed out and easy to follow despite lack of blazes. Minimal ice on trail. Summit was clear of ice and snow. Air was cool but the rocks were warm to sit on.

Special Required Equipment: Could have bare booted but crampons gave better footing.

Comments: Amazing day to be out, surprised to see that much snow on the ground still. Saw two other people on the way up as I made my way down. Quick five hour round trip hike despite walking up Lincoln Gap road and spending a good 30 minutes on the sumit enjoying the views of everything forever. 52/67

The road was closed. A log under the tire kept the car from rolling down the hill.

It would have been easy to drive around the sign if the snow wasn't there.

High tech Maple sugar taps and lines along Lincoln Gap road.

A view South through the trees from the Long Trail.

Interesting rock squeeze along the Long Trail.

Battell Shelter. There is a picnic table in front under the snow.

Summit Benchmark.

Adirondacks and Lake Champlain from summit.

South from summit. Killington?

East from Summit. Pictures never due the views justice.

This little guy was a little camera shy.
